Thee Waiting Place

"You can get so confused / that you’ll start in to race / down the long wiggled road at a break-necking pace / and grind on for miles across weirdish wild space, / headed, I fear, toward a most useless place. / THE WAITING PLACE… / …for people just waiting. / Waiting for a train to go / or a bus to come, or a plane to go / or the mail to come, or the rain to go / or the phone to ring, or the snow to snow / or waiting around for a Yes or No / or waiting for their hair to grow. / Everyone is just waiting. / Waiting for the fish to bite / or waiting for wind to fly a kite / or waiting around for Friday night / or waiting, perhaps, for their Uncle Jake / or a pot to boil, or a Better Break / or a string of pearls, or a pear of pants / or a wig with curls, or Another Chance. / Everyone is just waiting
~ Dr. Seuss
Here is where I wait to see
Everything my life can be
I don’t know what I’m waiting for
But I’ll know it when it comes ashore
Waiting for someone special to call
Waiting for a far-off star to fall
Into my lap, just for me
To keep in my pocket surreptitiously
I’m waiting for the mail to show
With an envelope revealing a Yes or a No
I’m waiting for a few small words to be said
I’m waiting for a spark to go off in my head
So I know where to go and what to do
So I know how to live and with who
Here is where I wait to know
If I have what it takes to get up and go
Somewhere far, somewhere new
Do something great, be someone who
Is loved by many, known by more
But I’m waiting to see what I’m good for
Here is where I wait to see
Everything that I can be
I don’t know what I’m waiting for
But I’ll know it when it knocks at my door
